SSE Services

The Social Stock Exchange (SSE) set up in 2019 is an excellent avenue for social organizations to raise funds while diversifying the sources.

Over the last 10 years, the social sector has been excessively relying on highly regulated and government-controlled sources such as Government schemes, CSR and FCRA donations.  It is seen in the recent past that the government’s change in view of one regulation made several thousand NGOs run for cover since their FCRA registrations were not renewed.

We believe that with the large proportions this sector has grown up to (and still a lot needs to be done), it is time the NGOs thought about de-risking their funding source and creating new avenues. SSE is one such promising route and hence we have carved out a separate service – where we are with the organization throughout the process from getting ready to post listing compliances.

Even though a lot needs to be done as far as making SSE attractive for the fundraising organizations as well as the Investors on the exchange, the current framework provides enough space for the organizations to raise funds.

Our goal is to make SSE easily accessible to the NGOs – addressing the perceived roadblocks – thereby helping organizations:

  • diversify their fund-raising avenues
  • establish their credibility and willingness to offer more transparency and accountability towards donors and investors

We are looking at addressing both sides of the exchange – The issuer side (supply) and the Investor side (demand). Both need to be strengthened to make the Exchange grow.

SSE is a new development in the social sector and not many are aware of its purpose, utility and nuances. Some who have heard about it have several queries and misconceptions. Our service starts with creating this awareness and removing doubts.

Depending on the level of readiness of the organization, the entire process till listing runs over 18–24-week process. It could be shorter for those who have compliances in place and a well-conceived project designed for the fundraise. We work with the organizations in this entire process.

Often organizations do not know potential investors who could be tapped. We help them identify and assist in making pitches to them.

Wherever necessary, we work with our affiliated service partners, in areas such as social audit, impact assessment, legal drafting of contracts (if required), regularizing past compliances, etc.
